

Joseph M. Hill, Jr., went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, February 13, 2024. Joe was born May 18, 1932, in Mt. Hope, Fayette County, West Virginia, and was the son of the late Joseph M. and Virginia Hill.
Joe graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, Beckley, WV and Marshall University, Huntington, WV, with a BS degree in accounting.
Upon graduation from Marshall, Joe was employed with Crosley’s, Cincinnati, Ohio, as a cost accountant. He was drafted into the U.S. Army and proudly served during the Korean War. Upon completion of his military service, he was employed with South Carolina Electric and Gas Company and retired after 33 years of service in accounting-related positions.
Joe married his beloved wife, Dolores, and they enjoyed 70 years of marriage.
Joe is survived by the love of his life and best friend, Dolores Garges Hill; son, Mike Hill of North Myrtle Beach; daughter, Cynthia Nelson (DJ, Lt. Col, USAF Ret.) of Warner Robins, GA; grandson, David Hill of Cary, NC; grandson, Caleb Nelson (Allie) of Burlington, WI; grandson, Seth Nelson of Warner Robins, GA; sister, Jacque Scites, West Melbourne, FL; sisters-in-law, Margaret Webb of Irmo, Linda Hill of Melbourne, FL, Sayra Hill, Auburn, WA; niece, Carol Jones of Huntington, WV; nephew, Tim Hill (LeeAnn) of Huntington, WV; niece, Kristina Monten (Gregg) of Snohomish, WA; niece, Melissa Wolfe (John) of Fullerton CA; nephew, Gregg Hill (Allison) of Bellingham, WA; nephew, Rev. Richard Webb (Clair) of Ontario, Canada; niece, Melanie Lee (Rev. Bob) of Midlothian, VA; niece, Tracy Webb of Columbia; nephew, Chris Scites, of Lutz, FL; niece, Jennifer Scites of Palm Bay, FL; stepgranddaughter, Jan Smith (David) of Blythewood; stepgrandson, Jim Mishoe (Jennifer) of Charlotte, NC; great-nephews and nieces; great-granddaughter, Elyse Nelson of Burlington, WI. Joe was predeceased by his parents, twin infant sons, Joel and Jeffrey; brothers, Billy and Dennis; sisters, Louise and Ruby; and daughter-in-law, Joy Hill.
Joe was active at First Baptist Church, Columbia, SC, which he joined in February 1955. He was ordained a Deacon, served as Chairman of the Associate Deacons, Usher, Sunday School teacher, and served on various committees. At the time of his death, he was a member of the Bible Survey Sunday School Class.
Joe will be remembered for his love of the Lord, his family and friends, and for his integrity and quiet demeanor.
The funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 17, 2024, in First Baptist Church, Boyce Chapel, 1306 Hampton Street, Columbia, S.C., with burial following in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6:00 p.m. on Friday, February 16, 2024 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
