COLUMBIA Graveside service for Joyce Henslee Morgan, 99, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 15, 2015, in Elmwood Cemetery. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. Joyce slipped into the arms of the Lord on Thursday, May 7, 2015. Born October 2, 1915, in Buffalo Gap, Texas, she was the second child of early settlers, Carl and Margaret Henslee. The Henslee family later moved to Winters, Texas, where Joyce lived until the mid 1930’s, when she married the boy next door, W. J. Morgan. The couple soon moved to Dallas, where W.J. began a long career with Mutual of Omaha. Their only child, Marilyn, was born in Dallas. Later the family moved to Atlanta and then to Columbia where W.J. oversaw Mutual of Omaha’s successful South Carolina operation. Joyce was a devoted wife and homemaker and was active in her church, many civic clubs, and in the Girl Scouts of America. At the time of her death, Joyce was one of the oldest members of Kathwood Baptist Church. Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, W. J. Morgan; their beloved daughter, Marilyn; her parents; two brothers, Luke and Kenneth Henslee; and one sister, Carolee Henslee Patton. She is survived by her only nephew, Kenneth Henslee Patton and his wife, Judy of Tuscola, Texas; a great-nephew, Kevin Patton and his wife, Lyndsey; and two great-great-nephews, Weston and Grayson Patton of San Antonio, Texas. Joyce was blessed to have many faithful and loving friends and caretakers in Columbia, for whose calls, visits and support she was always grateful. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts should be made to the Marilyn Morgan Education Fund at the Columbia Museum of Art, PO Box 2068, Columbia, SC 29206 or Kathwood Baptist Church, PO Box 6486, Columbia, SC 29206.
