As a preteen, Jule enjoyed summer fun at family vacations on Sullivans Island and the old Screven home in East Flat Rock, N.C., where she and cousin Danny Daniels, the youngest children, were playmates. She attended Spence School and Briarcliff College in New York and graduated from the University of South Carolina in English in 1949.

At home in Charleston, they enjoyed duplicate bridge and travel. Their vacations included a trip to the U.S. West and a stay in London with Kathy and Steve Freilich, Maynard’s daughter, and granddaughters, Mara and Emily. The highlight in London was the play “Mary Poppins.” Jule enjoyed a North Sea cruise with Maynards’s son, Len, his wife, Elise and grandson, Tim. In 2010, Jule and Maynard cruised the Caribbean and Western Europe from London to Barcelona. A Panama Canal cruise exited in San Francisco and in 2013, Jule and Maynard cruised the New England Islands.
