Kent spent most of his working life in construction, asbestos remediation, and environmental quality monitoring. His work took him across the Southeast, but he always returned to Columbia, South Carolina—the family’s longtime home. He later finished his career running the parts department at a friend’s auto shop, where he was known for his knowledge and reliability.
Following the passing of his father, Kent spent more than a decade taking care of his mother, staying with her and helping her remain at home until his own health began to decline.
Fishing was a constant in Kent’s life. He rarely passed up an opportunity to cast a line, no matter where he happened to be. He took particular satisfaction in bringing home fresh fish for his mother. At one point, he even kept a largemouth bass in a large aquarium, simply because he wanted it close by.
In retirement, Kent settled into a quieter routine, spending his days watching birds in the backyard and keeping company with his cat.
Kent is survived by his brother, Mark McClure and his wife Rachel; his sister, Margo Schulte and her husband Mike; his nieces and nephew, Katherine McClure, Rebecca Hayes (and her husband Mikey), Ian McClure, and Alexa Schulte.
