
Lamar passed away on Friday, March 3, 2023. Born in Auburn, Alabama, he grew up in Pennington, New Jersey. He moved to Clemson in the 9th grade and graduated from Daniel High School. He was a son of the late Lamar Hamilton Brown and Eloise Jackson Brown.
Lamar received his Bachelor’s degree in Art from the University of Georgia and his Master’s degree in Art Education at the University of South Carolina. He also took post graduate photography classes at Clemson University. Lamar worked as an art teacher in Fort Jackson schools for 30 years. He was a member of the State and National Art Education Association. As a young man, he enjoyed being a Boy Scout and he went on to help with the Boy Scouts at Shandon Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed photography, painting, and traveling.
Surviving are his wife, Helen Ramsay Brown of Columbia, SC; son, Will Brown; two nieces, Jennifer Brown (Bobby), and Stacy Hayne (Tim); and nephew, Hamilton Brown.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Jay Brown.
