A native of Columbia, S.C., Salley, 65, graduated from Spring Valley High, class of 1978 and attended Midlands Technical College. He joined the Irmo Police Department in 1984 and worked as a detective until 1994. He founded Four Seasons Landscaping in 1994 and served as its president until joining Kimball Midwest in 2003. He was a sales representative for the national distributor of maintenance products until his passing.
Salley was a loyal friend to many who knew and loved him. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and shared his love of nature with hundreds of friends across the state. He also shared his love of music as a bass guitarist with several local bands over the years, including "Midlife Crisis" and most recently "Sundown."
Friends called him a "renaissance man," as he was equally adept at farming and working with animals as he was at making music. He had a tremendous, practical knowledge of land and equipment and was always available to help his friends.
He is survived by his wife, Jodie Melton Salley, and their daughter, Logan Elizabeth Salley, of Lexington, S.C.; his sister, Rebecca Salley Fincher, of Johns Creek, Georgia; his sister-in-law, Denise (Mark) Thompson, of Rock Hill, S.C.; his brother-in-law, Ricky (Kathy) Henson, of Richburg, S.C.; his sister-in-law, Allison Butler Salley of Columbia, S.C.; and four nephews and one niece. He was predeceased by his parents, Carrere Salley and Nellwyn Reid Salley of Columbia, S.C. and his brother, William Calhoun Salley of Columbia, S.C.
Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is handling arrangements. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make any donations in his memory to Aikenequinerescue.org
