Born in Columbia, SC, Nancy was a daughter of the late Charles Team True and Mary Nell Coxwell True. She graduated from Columbia High School in 1955, then went on to attend Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia, and later the University of South Carolina. Married to John Dean Crain, II for 27 years, she raised her family in Greenville, SC. She later moved to Pawleys Island, SC where she lived for more than 30 years, finding deep joy in coastal life―the crashing waves and salty air filling her soul and giving peace to her spirit.
Nancy enjoyed a decades-long career with C&S Bank and Bank of America where, as in her personal life, she wore many hats in service to others.
Her faith in the Lord was the foundation of her life, giving her strength in every season. A member of First Presbyterian Church in Columbia and later Pawleys Island Presbyterian Church, she lived her faith in her words and actions, walking her earthly path with compassion, humility, and love.
Warm and genuine to her core, Nancy was quick to build deep and lasting friendships. Her weekly dinners with friends were a cherished tradition, filled with laughter, storytelling, and connection (and maybe a margarita or two).
Most importantly, she was the matriarch of our family―steady, nurturing, and endlessly generous. Her home was a place of comfort and belonging, bustling with food, family, friends, and neighbors. She loved wholly and completely, and her legacy of love, faith, and generosity lives on in all who were blessed to know her. She will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
Surviving are her daughter, Molly C. Achille (Jeff) of Pawleys Island, SC; son, John Dean Crain, III (Shannon) of Redmond, Washington; five grandchildren, Allston Achille (Grayson), Chase Achille (Olivia), Ansley Achille, Maxine Crain, Reilly Crain; two great-grandchildren, Hayes Achille and Waylon Achille; and brother, David Thurston True of Pawleys Island, SC.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Charles Team True, Jr., and sister, Mary Ann True Kincaid.
True to her faith, Nancy gave generously to her church and various charitable organizations. Those wishing to honor her memory are encouraged to donate to a charity of their choosing in her name.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2026 in Elmwood Cemetery.
