COLUMBIA - A funeral service for Nicholas Angelo “Nick” Manos, 20, will be held at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church on Thursday, August 26, 2021 at 11:30 a.m. followed by a makaria, traditional Orthodox funeral lunch, in the Angelo Tsiantis Center at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with Trisagion Prayers beginning at 7:15 p.m.
Nick died Friday, August 20, 2021. Born in Camden, SC, on November 15, 2000, he was the son of Marcus Angelo “Marc” Manos and Rose Duggan Manos. He attended local Columbia schools St. Peter's Catholic School, A.C. Moore Elementary School, Hand Middle School, and Dreher High School, as well as Turnbridge Academy in New Haven, CT. Nick, who never met a stranger, served as a disc jockey (particularly enjoyed the gigs at his own birthday and for his grandmother’s birthday and Christmas parties at Christopher Towers), loved music, cooking, and traveling - especially to the Bahamas. Nick was a diehard Louisville Cardinals fan and never missed a Cardinal bowl game. He was also a Virginia Cavaliers fan and a huge Baltimore Ravens fan. A member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, he helped with the Greek Festival Grocery Store every year. He loved spending time at the Animal Protection League of South Carolina shelter playing with all the dogs and cats. Nick loved dogs and cats and they loved him. He also loved to draw, sketch and color.
He made friends all over the community, state, country and overseas. They all comment on his openness to all, kindness and sense of humor. He was quite the prankster. When he graduated from A.C. Moore after fifth grade, many of the younger after school program children cried because he was leaving them. He was artist of the month for his artwork at Hand Middle School and made the A/B honor roll in 8th Grade. It is not exaggerating to say he loved Bojangles.
In addition to his mother and father, he is survived by two sisters, Rebecca Nicole Chandler of Gaston, SC and Jessica Rose Pettengill of Cayce, SC; maternal grandmother, Alice Montgomery of Columbia, SC and maternal grandfather, Bruce Pettengill (Marsha) of Derby, CT; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends; his Godparents Angelo and Georgia Trifos of Columbia, who he loved dearly; his canine companion, Luna, and his cat, McKenzie Kitten.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Angelo Basil Manos and Eleanor Wilson Manos. He was also predeceased by his beloved nana, Nellie Lewis. He always called her “My Nellie.”
