COLUMBIA Graveside service with full military honors for SFC Oliver Henry “Smokey” Bauman, III, U.S. Army (Ret.), 66, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 24, 2014, in Ft. Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7:00 p.m. Sunday, November 23, 2014, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. SFC Bauman passed away Thursday, November 20, 2014, surrounded by his wife and four children. Born September 27, 1948, in Wabeno, Wis., he was a son of Doris Bauman and the late Oliver Henry Bauman, Jr. He served in the U.S. Army for 20 years. During his military career, he proudly served five tours in Vietnam. After his retirement, he became a small business owner. He and his wife successfully ran The Cactus Inn in Columbia for 18 years before retiring for a second time in 2013. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, taking care of his Koi fish and taking an afternoon ride in one of his beloved cars. He is survived by his mother, Doris C. Bauman of Wabeno; his wife of 44 years, Quyen Bauman; sons, Billy Bauman (Kathy) of Abbeville, Joe Bauman (Jennifer) of Hopkins; daughters, Jennifer Bradley (Kyle) of Richmond Hill, Ga., Wendy Bauman of Columbia; grandchildren, Morgan, Daniel and Jonathan Bauman, Logan, Ryan and Brayden Bradley, Campbell and Joseph Bauman, Alex and Sidney Williams, Kaiyah and Bentley Bauman; brothers, Tom Bauman and Tim Bauman; sisters, Judy Fohrman, Sue Klementz, Betsy Johnson, Kelly Bauman; an aunt and an uncle; numerous nieces and nephews; lifelong family friends, Dr. Neal and Mamie Atkinson. He was predeceased by his father, Oliver H. Bauman Jr. and a sister, Patti Jean. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210.
