COLUMBIA - A Mass of Christian Burial for Patricia Nevins Mason, 82, will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 22, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with interment in church columbarium. The Rosary will be recited at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, October 21, 2018, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with visitation following until 7:00 p.m.
Mrs. Mason died Saturday, October 13, 2018. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, she was a daughter of the late James Joseph Nevins and Catherine Grace Seifert Nevins. Patricia received a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Chattanooga and was an alumna of the University of South Carolina and Stanford University. She taught middle school in the Chattanooga Education System. She was manager of The Religious Shop and worked for the Baptist Hospital Gift Shop. She was volunteer at Providence Hospital, Baptist Hospital, St. Joseph School, and Radio Station for the Blind for several years. She served as President of Providence Hospital Auxiliary. Patricia was very active in her faith as evidenced by her volunteer work, including Director of Eucharistic Adoration, an EMHC, taught CCD religious education and tutored as well as trained students to perform as lectors for St. Joseph School Masses.
Surviving are her husband, William G. Mason of Columbia; sons, Kevin P. Mason of Columbia and Brian K. Mason (Teresa) of Latta, SC; six grandchildren, Kimberly M. Mason, C. Taylor Mason, Morgan A. Mason, Stephen M. Mason, William P. Mason, and Matthew S. Mason; brother, Richard C. Nevins (Joann); sister, Gail L. Nevins; niece, Diana Nevins; and nephew, Edward Nevins.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 3512 Devine Street, Columbia, SC.
