Peter was the beloved husband of Ellen Wickersham (née Ostermann), whom he married on October 23, 1965. Their marriage was a lasting partnership marked by commitment, mutual support, and deep affection. In retirement, Peter and Ellen cherished a simple and meaningful weekly ritual—attending Saturday evening services at St. Raphael in Wake Forest, North Carolina, followed by dinner at the Deli, a time they treasured together.
Raised Episcopalian in faith, Peter carried his spirituality quietly and sincerely throughout his life, finding comfort in tradition, fellowship, and shared moments of reflection.
He was a loving father to Karen Wickersham, Jane Wickersham, and Peter J. Wickersham, and took great pride in each of his children. Peter was fully present in their lives, whether it meant attending numerous soccer games, sitting poolside to watch a swimming meet, or offering steady encouragement in everyday moments. As his children grew into adulthood, his support never wavered. He was always ready to lend a hand—helping with moves to new homes, offering practical assistance, or traveling to visit Karen, Jane, or Pete wherever life took them.
Peter was known for being exceptionally handy, with a willingness to tackle any home project that needed doing. No task was too big or too small; he approached every job with patience, determination, and quiet competence. His reliability and problem solving spirit were hallmarks of who he was, and his family could always count on him to show up and help.
He was a cherished brother to Ann Wickersham, a proud grandfather to Nikolay, Abigail, and Thomas, who absolutely adored him, and a loving father in law to Ekaterina, welcoming her into the family with warmth and kindness.
Peter was preceded in death by his parents, Majorie Wickersham (née Maltby) and Rowland de Benneville Wickersham.
Above all, Peter will be remembered as a man who put his family first—steady, generous, and deeply devoted. His presence, his help, and his love shaped the lives of those around him, and his memory will continue to live on through the family he cherished so deeply.
