

COLUMBIA - Funeral service for Richard “Rick” McK Jones Jr., 70, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at First Baptist Church, Boyce Chapel, with burial in Bush River Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church from 2 until 3:00 p.m. prior to the service. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. Mr. Jones died unexpectedly at Lexington Medical Center on Saturday, June 21, 2014. Born in Raleigh, N.C., he was a son of the late Richard McK Jones Sr. and Marguerite Newton Jones. A true Southern gentleman and proud patriot, Rick served in the U.S. Army as a computer programmer at West Point. He attended N.C. State where he studied computer programming. He moved to Columbia to begin a successful career in computer operations and sales with Digital Systems. In 1990, he began his own company, Automated Business Services, for which he was owner and CEO at the time of his death. An active and dedicated member of First Baptist Church, he served as a head usher, chairman of the Benevolence Committee, member of the Greeter Committee and was a deacon of the church. He was currently serving as Chairman of the Finance Committee for Cooperative Ministries. In addition, he was past-president of the Business Development Club and the Columbia Wolf Pack Club. At the time of his death, he was serving as Chairman of the Board of the Columbia/Charleston Better Business Bureau. An avid reader, he enjoyed personal fitness and boating on Lake Murray. Rick, a very kind person who always had a smile for everyone, is survived by his wife, Betsy Dyches Jones; cousins Charles Chapman and June Thompson; and numerous colleagues and special friends. His dynamic personality, Southern charm, and visionary leadership will be missed. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 1306 Hampton Street, Columbia, SC 29201 or N.C.
