

ROBERT “Bob” GREANEY, Sr. 86, passed away after a long illness Nov. 6, 2020, in Columbia, SC. He was born Sept. 29, 1934 in Amesbury, MA and grew up in Amesbury, MA. He attended Sanborn Seminary in NH. After school, he enlisted in the USAF, where he served in the Vietnam war and retired as a master sergeant. After his military career, Bob went to college were he earned two degrees through Midlands Technical College and the University of SC, in Columbia, SC. He worked at Siebel’s Bruce for many years. Throughout his life he enjoyed international travel to many places including Ireland, Hong Kong, and Monaco. In his spare time he was a little league baseball coach, and a USC Gamecock football and basketball fan. In his younger days, Bob enjoyed roller skating, playing golf and going to the car races.
Bob was the son of the late Thomas “Frank” Greaney Sr. and the late Irene Allard Bowley and stepson to the late Kenneth Bowley of Amesbury, MA. His siblings Joann Gleed of MA, Daniel Greaney of NH, William Greaney of FL, Marilyn McDonald of RI, Ronald Greaney of NH, and Carol Briere of FL survive him. He was predeceased by a brother Thomas of NH and a sister Jacqueline of MA.
He married Jeanne Talbot of Amesbury, MA and Canton, GA. Bob is survived by his children Jean Bourque and Keith Bates, Robert Greaney Jr., and Ronald Greaney of Columbia SC, Michael Greaney of Rochester, NH and Christine Kohl and Donna Tremblay of Canton, GA. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Adam Bourque of Columbia, SC, Melanie Greaney and Matthew Greaney of ME, Richard Greaney of NH, Brittany Greaney of PA, Deb and Keith Loranger of NH, Andrew and Rachel Kohl of Tampa, FL and Aysel Tremblay of Canton, GA. Bob is also survived by his godson Jimmy Gleisner of Statesboro, GA and step daughter Anna and her husband John Gleisner of Statesboro, GA and close family friend Rick Gleisner of Columbia, SC.
He is survived by 10 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild as well as numerous nieces, nephews, sisters in law and brother in laws, cousins, and friends. Funeral arrangements will be handled by Dunbar Funeral Home of Columbia, SC and a private military memorial will be held at Fort Jackson, SC.
