A family graveside service will be held Friday, April 27, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. in Greenlawn Memorial Park. A visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. prior to the service at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
Sarah was born on June 2, 1924 in Miami, Florida and is the daughter of the late Norman Page Murray and Sarah Lemmond Murray. She moved to Columbia at the age of five. She attended Columbia High School and then graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in Education. She went to New York to attend school at Darson’s School of Design. After completing design school, she taught art for several years at Schneider School, Columbia High School and in the Aiken public schools.
She was a member of St. Martin’s-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church and Hyacinth Garden Club. She was a longtime resident of Still Hopes Episcopal Retirement Community of West Columbia and more recently of Forest Pines Retirement Community in Columbia. Sarah and her husband, the late Jim Scott, were avid fans of the Carolina Gamecocks.
Sarah is survived by her brother, Norman Page Murray, Jr. of West Grove, PA.; daughter, Sarah “Sallie” L. Scott of Columbia; two sons, James W. Scott, Jr. of Corozal Town, Belize an Norman M. Scott of Jackson, WY; three grandchildren, Jami W. Emory of Greer, James W. Scott III of Hanahan and Brandon M. Scott of AFB, NM; two great-grandchildren, James W. Scott IV and Evelyn A. Scott of Hanahan.
