COLUMBIA - A funeral service for Thomas Carlton Palmer, 91, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 14, 2019 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Palmer died Thursday, October 10, 2019. Born July 7, 1928 in Clarks Summit, PA, he was the son of the late Frank and Gladys Palmer.
Thomas served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He retired was Lieutenant Colonel. He received many awards and medals including the Bronze Star with "V" device and oak leaf cluster, Purple Heart Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal with bronze star, WWII Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal (Japan), National Defense Medal with bronze star, Korea Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with silver star, United Nations Korean Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and The Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation. Thomas was an Elder of his church in California at the Irvine First Evangelical Church.
Thomas was a very giving person, who always put other first and had immense loved life. He was loved by all and will be deeply missed.
Surviving are his wife, Janice Palmer; daughter. Sharon Choe; son, Peter Choe; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Helen Eckersley and Jean Mays; and brothers, Jack Palmer and Steuart Bailey.
