Tillinghast "Tim" Morgan Dowdey, Jr. died May 7, 2021 after a long illness. Born on June 9, 1926, he is survived by Maree, his wife of 75 years; sons, Daniel (Lorraine) and Gary (Lynn deceased); grandchildren, Stephanie D. Arrigo (Anthony) and Matthew M. Dowdey (Anna). He was a proud great grandfather to Alexandra and Thomas Arrigo and Brenn and Georgia Dowdey.
He was a WWII Navy Veteran with service in the Pacific theater of war on the destroyer, A.A. Cunningham, DD 752. Returning home from battle, he married his childhood sweetheart.
Tim was a life member of the Columbia Sailing Club and previously served on the Board of Stewards. He was employed for years by Columbia Supply Company and later opened his own business, Tim Dowdey Company.
He was educated in schools in Richland County, The Palmetto School of Aeronautics, and the University of South Carolina.
Services will be private with internment in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
