William Louis Wolfson

Billy was born September 25, 1951 in Wichita Falls, TX. He attended schools in Wichita Falls and graduated from New Mexico Military Institute where he studied Duty Honor Achievement. He studied English and Petroleum Engineering at the University of Oklahoma and the University of Texas. He completed the Haliburton Drilling program and could work onshore or offshore on a drilling rig if he so desired.

Billy was self-employed in the Oil & Gas Industry and the Environmental Industry. He founded SCAPE in SC. He and his wife Susi were owners of "Flying Colors" and "La Pizza Cucina" in Columbia.

Billy loved dogs, books, BBQ, Tex-Mex rum, onion rings and growing hot peppers. He loved his Wednesday nights that he shared with his Houston friends. He was an original Dead Head who loved to play golf and tennis. Billy played in the national tennis event known as Nats at the Zoo, at Kalamazoo College at the age of 16. In his freshman year, he went to the University of Oklahoma on a tennis scholarship. He became an “obnoxious” Sooner fan for the rest of his life! He was an avid reader with a photographic memory, a historian, a Civil War expert who traveled the world past and present through his books. He was a true friend in every sense of the word to everyone he met and was loved by an amazing number of friends, both near and far.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Isadore “Izzy” J. and Pauline “Polly” Wolfson of Wichita Falls.

Surviving family are his wife, Susan “Susi” Gerry Wolfson of Columbia; his sons, Alex Gerry Wolfson of Columbia and Joseph “Joe” Art Wolfson of Columbia; his sister, Pamela “Pam” Holt Johnson of Morristown, NJ; nephews, Sean Robert Holt and Ryan Scott Holt; and niece, Paige Jeanette Holt.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring 2026. The date will be shared when known.
