Bruce M. Dawson, 89, died Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Havenwood Nursing Home. He was born and raised in Manchester, NH, the son of John and Mildred (Haskell) Dawson. He was a graduate of Manchester Central High School.
Bruce lived in Hooksett and Hopkinton, NH before moving to Havenwood. He worked in sales at International Shoe Company and Pembroke Boats and was the Director of Provider Relations at Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield. He proudly served his country in the Army, stationed in Germany during the Korean War, and served in the Naval Reserves prior to that time. He was a volunteer at the Slusser Senior Center and Hopkinton Dial-a-ride, for which he received the Joseph D. Vaughan Volunteer award for Merrimack County in 2016. He was a member of the Jewell Masonic Lodge in Pembroke and First Congregational Church of Hopkinton.
Bruce enjoyed gardening and caring for his yard in Hopkinton. He liked to hunt and fish. However his greatest love was for his family.
In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his sister, Lucy Dawson; his brothers, James Dawson, John Dawson, Neil Dawson, and Richard Dawson.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Patricia (Hook) Dawson of Concord; his daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Jim Howard of Pembroke; his granddaughter, Patty Dawson of Boston, MA and beloved nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, January 6, 2019 from 4pm to 6pm at Bennett Funeral Home, 209 N. Main St. Concord. A memorial service will take place at the First Congregational Church of Hopkinton on Monday, January 7th at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Bruce's memory to Dial-a-ride, P.O. Box 83, Hopkinton, NH 03229-0083.
Bruce's family would like to thank Havenwood for their wonderful care and caring for Bruce and his family during his last days.
