In between Memorial Day and what would have been our 38th Anniversary I have only to say thank you. Seeing the next generation of children grow and treasure memories spark my life with purpose. Love you on the other side, still loving, as I am sure you are.

Reading the message of december 30th that I wrote about you, Charlie, I still feel the same way, over a year ago. I think we are like the geese, mated for life. I have so been enjoying seeing the continuity of your life in the grandkids, and the love the young ones had for you!

He was a wonderful man and husband to Bettye. He will be missed so much by his family and friends.

One of the best men I've ever known. I will miss your physical presence in this world, but know your spirit will be with us.

I will especially miss our amusing conversations regarding the GOP, the NRA and local Sports teams.  You usually only meet one "Charlie" in your lifetime and his presence will be forever missed.  See you on the other side someday my friend!!

I have never seen a friendship such as the one my father and Charlie had.  The stories we have heard and the laughs they have brought will never be forgotten!  Charlie will forever be in our hearts!

It has been over 10 years since I introduced myself to Charlie. He was the local Barber and I the Tattoo Artist of Durham, NH. After a while he eventually warmed up to me. We always shared a special hand wave when we walked pass each others shop. Over time our little tradition grew into small talk. When my Grandfather passed, I was blessed that Charlie filled those shoes of his for me as my elder who I looked up too. Just this past year I learned that they both had a lot more in common than I ever knew. I look forward to following the both of you in your foot steps as I will be an entered apprentice soon. Charlie, you wear a great man, I appreciate all your advise over the years, enjoyed all the small talk and big laughs that we shared, and most of all I will miss your smile as you wave and walk pass my shop every day...

While going through all the wonderful memories of years past, I ran across a card I sent Charlie on our 18th anniversary, So many years ago! Roses on the outside, the inside was blank so that I could write my own verse to him, fashioned with our many years of love in mind. A verse from the longer poem I wrote to him, REDISCOVERED, it rung so true to who we were together, I wanted to share this brief verse. "After I rediscovered me, within each cell I rediscovered how to see who you were. Creeping up on me, a silent jester. Laughing as the passion ignited. Isn't it strange? But, so are we! Suitable to the monotony of a daily life.... transformed." So glad we were blessed with so many years together! We had so many moments, and life was always far from monotonous! Thankful that we also knew good friends and family, the everyday people who write about their regard for Charlie as well. Thank you all, so many wonderful people to share our great times with, over the years! Bettye

I must confess that I didn't even know Charlie's last name. He was just Charlie. He was my barber. He was my barber since he starting cutting hair in Durham. I was happy that Durham had another barber again. I was happy that it was Charlie. I had lived in Northwood before moving to Durham 25+ years ago so we had something to talk about from the start. Northwood conversation quickly changed to the subject of his family which was obviously what his life was all about. I have never met his family but I feel I know them. Wherever our conversations started, they always ended with family. He was so happy with what he had....and will always have. God bless you all. I know God will take care of Charlie.

All of us, missing him so much. A light extinguished here and brighter in the heavens. My forever love, singing to me, "My Girl", or watching a sunset on the west coast of Florida raising a glass to Jimmy Buffet tunes, or just relaxing fireside during a camping trip, telling stories and enjoying the many stars above. So many good times, too many to count. Its the everyday motions of love, not showy or dramatic that made our lives so fulfilling. I will continue to see your wonderful way in the young ones, the legacy lives on. Thank you for the many years of love and laughter, the strength through sorrow that your gentle smile and loving arms brought to our lives. Thank you for the dance, it made all the difference. Till we meet again....My favorite memories of Charlie (Sonny) were of him camping.  Relaxing by the campfire, telling a story or two.  Enjoying the outdoors, surrounded by family and friends, was how Charlie experienced life.  He brought out the best in all who surrounded him.  Blessings.

"Not too bad! In spite of myself."  His signature response to "How are you?" I know I'll never forget it.  Sonny was a humble man who was loved and admired by many.  Upon hearing of Sonny's passing, my cousin Donny said to me, "We have lost a great man."  Yes Donny, that we did.  Sonny was a trusted husband, a caring father, an admired friend, and most of all, a truly loving brother.  I will miss my brother terribly.  I'm so proud of Sonny and how he led his life.  He walked the talk of the old fashion way--honest and hardworking.  He touched the hearts of many through his fellowship and mentored many a man, young and old, on the path of good, clean living and doing the next right thing.  Sonny, you will be missed dearly.....enjoy the journey.  Brother Steve

Charlie and I spent many years together in masonry and served in many of the same offices, you could always depend upon him to help when needed. I spent part of the day with him at the HRAKTP meeting in Portsmouth last December 8th, I'll cherish that day always. Good buy my Friend.

Charlie to most of you; he'll always be Sonny to me as our Uncle Brownie named him when he would sing "Climb upon my knee Sonny boy" as he was dressed in his little sailor boy outfit.  A deep loss to all of us who loved him dearly.  Bless you Bettye who brought him so much happiness.
