

Tilton – Charles E. Lapierre, 100, died on Friday, August 8, 2014 at the New Hampshire Veterans Home, in Tilton, NH.
Mr. Lapierre was born on November 30, 1913, in Portsmouth, VA, the son of the late Aimee A. and Wilhamena (Hendrix) Lapierre. He was a resident of Concord from 1920 until 1992 when he moved to Lancaster, NH following the loss of his beloved wife. In 2006 he went to live at the NH Veterans Home in Tilton, NH where he passed away peacefully with his family by his side.
He was a veteran and served in the United States Army during World War II.
He was employed as a police officer for 25 years with the Concord Police Department, and then became a familiar face around the NH State House where he worked in the maintenance department for 15 years.
In his younger years, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed square dancing with his wife Sandy. Mr. Lapierre was an accomplished craftsman and the evidence of his woodworking skills can still be seen in and around Concord.
Members of his family include; his daughter, Sandra L. Cron, and her husband, Will, of Lancaster, NH; three grandchildren; Reid S. Thomas, and his wife, Carey, of Exeter, NH; Robert C. Thomas, and his wife Tamar, of Portsmouth, NH; Amy M. Harte, and her husband, Jake, of Philadelphia, PA; two great grandchildren, Finley J. Thomas and Corinne A. Thomas, as well as nieces and nephews. Mr. Lapierre was predeceased by his wife, Clara “Sandy” A. (Freeman) Lapierre, who died in August 1992, and by his son, Charles “Chip” F. Lapierre.
SERVICES: A calling hour will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2014, 11:00 AM – 12:00 Noon, at the Bennett Funeral Home, 209 N. Main Street, in Concord. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 12 Noon. The Reverend Terry Donovan Odell will officiate the service. Committal prayers with military honors will follow at Blossom Hill Cemetery, in Concord.
It has been suggested that those who wish may make memorial gifts to The Concord Police Patrolmen’s Association, PO Box 981, Concord, NH 03302-0981 or to The NH Veterans Home, 139 Winter Street, Tilton, NH 03276, in memory of Mr. Lapierre.
