
Concord, NH. Cynthia A. Wessen, 86, died Sunday, March 13, 2016 at Presidential Oaks in Concord following a brief illness. She was a resident since January of 2007 of John H. Whittaker Place in Penacook, NH, where she received excellent care and attention, enjoyed activities with fellow residents, and loved spending time with her family. Born in Concord on February 6, 1930, she attended Concord Schools and graduated Concord High School in 1948. She earned her RN from the Elliot Hospital School of nursing in 1952, and she lived in various locations throughout the United States during her marriage to Donald Wessen, who served in the United States Air Force. When Colonel Wessen retired in 1974, they moved to Bow, NH and thereafter Cynthia worked at Concord Hospital until her retirement in 1990.
Cynthia had a wonderful sense of humor and a beautiful smile. She enjoyed horseback riding, spending time at her sister Ellen’s cottage at Pleasant Lake in Elkins, NH, and was an avid fan of the Patriots and the Red Sox.
She is survived by her son Doug Wessen of Juneau, Alaska; daughter Lynn Wessen Phillippe and her husband Buddy of Charleston, South Carolina; brother John Phillips and his wife Cynthia; brother Donald Phillips; brother Roger Phillips and his wife Susan, all of Concord, NH; and sister-in-law Phyllis W. Phillips, of New London, NH. Nieces and nephews include Laura Stevens, Carrie Phillips, Sarah Phillips, Leslie Talmadge, Scott Phillips, John Robert Phillips, Ellyn Benson, Kristin Phillips (also her God Daughter), Lori Savoy, and Justin Phillips, as well as several grand nieces and nephews.
Cynthia was predeceased by her parents, Winfield J. Phillips and Doris (Saben) Phillips, her brother Paul E. Phillips, her sister Ellen Phillips, her niece Amy Phillips, and her former husband, Donald Wessen.
Cynthia and her family wish to thank the second and third floor staff at Presidential Oaks, and the Hospice personnel, for their very kind and excellent care.
Funeral services will be Held at Bennett Funeral Home at 209 North Main Street, Concord, NH, with calling hours at 3:00 pm and services at 4:00 pm on Friday, March 18, 2016. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Paul’s Church, Concord, NH, Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Association, and the Pope Memorial SPCA, Concord, NH.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Bennett Funeral Home of Concord New Hampshire.
