

Don was born in Concord, NH on October 28, 1927 to Charles Blake Smith and Roxie H. Bunnell of Warner, NH.
Don graduated from Simonds High School in 1946. After graduation, he entered the US Army. When basic training was completed, he was deployed to Korea during World War II where he worked as an ambulance driver. He returned to Warner in 1948. He eventually met his wife, Nancy Willoughby, in 1950 at the local square dance hall in Bradford. They were married on May 29, 1954 and spent 63 wonderful years together. Don spent the majority of his working career as a computer programmer for Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield.
Don, or Donnie as he was known by many, had an amazing personality. He loved people and everyone who knew him had a deep affection for him. He had a joyful sprit and was forever laughing and loved talking to people. He enjoyed being out in nature. He spent many weekends camping with his family in New Hampshire and Vermont. One of his biggest loves was the Minks in Warner where he would spend many hours hiking and exploring with his brothers. He devoted many hours to being a Boy Scout Troop Leader for the local youths of Dunbarton. During his retirement, he gave back to the community by delivering the alter flowers from his church to local nursing homes.
Don is predeceased by his parents, Charles and Roxie Smith; daughter Wendy Smith; brothers Paul and Richard Smith and sister Marjorie (Smith) Spurlock.
Don will be missed greatly by his wife, Nancy Willoughby Smith; his son Wesley Smith and wife Colleen of New Boston; son Roger Smith and partner Emily Audesse of Goffstown; son Russ Smith of Dunbarton; grandson Nick Smith and wife Jess of Concord and Don’s great-grandsons Cameron and Gabe Smith; granddaughter, Sarah Kelly; brother Dean Smith and wife Roxanne of Warner and brother Gordon Smith of Warner; as well as many nephews and nieces.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, February 12th, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Bennett Funeral Home, 209 North Main Street, Concord, NH. A celebration of his life will take place at Immaculate Heart of Mary, 180 Loudon Rd, Concord, NH on Tuesday, February 13th, 11:00 a.m with a reception to follow downstairs.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Arrangements are entrusted to the Bennett Funeral Home of Concord.
