Dorothy Jean Meader

Dorothy "Dottie" Meader, 99, formerly of Durham, NH passed away in on April 3rd, 2024 at Havenwood in Concord.

She was born in Lynn, MA on January 21, 1925 and was the daughter of Charles and Phyllis (Redlon) Sawyer. She was a graduate of Lynn English High School.

She was predeceased by her husband, Carleton E. Meader Jr. in 1975. Dottie and Carl built a home in Durham where she was a homemaker while raising her family. In 1967 Dottie began working at the UNH bookstore as a buyer in the art supplies department. In 1985 she transferred to the financial aid department and retired in 1990.

Dottie is survived by daughters, Susan Huber of Jaffrey, NH and Bonnie Jones (Greg) of Dublin, NH; her son, Doug Meader of Falmouth, ME; sister, Ruth Bencal of Northwood, NH; grandchildren, Amy Cross (Andrew) of Chestertown, MD, and Ryan Jones (Kimberly) of Stratham, NH, and her great grandchildren, Addison Cross and Carter and Annalise Jones. She also leaves a niece and two nephews.

We wish to thank the third floor nurses and staff at Havenwood for their excellent care and compassion, and Amedisys Hospice, especially Elisha and Katie for their comfort care.

Dottie will be remembered fondly for her sense of humor, kindness, generosity and perseverance. Also for her applesauce cakes and fig squares.

A private family burial will be held at a later date.
