Doug or “Dougie” to many, was born in New Brunswick, NJ on February 15, 1954, to the late Elaine R. Finney and William E. Finney. The family moved to Concord when his dad was discharged from the army in 1954.
Doug graduated from Bishop Brady HS, Class of 1972 and UNH Thompson School with a degree in Forestry in 1976. Doug worked for the State of NH DOT as a surveyor and real estate appraiser for Capital Appraisal Associates. He worked as a carpenter on many renovation projects, including his own homes, family cottage at Silver Lake, and was always ready to help a friend with their home improvements. He retired from Dartmouth Hitchcock Clinic where he oversaw the management of the facility for 17 years.
His retirement years were spent traveling, gardening, and attending many concerts with his wife and family. He was especially proud of his Christmas tree plantings. Doug was a collector of many interesting items including antique signs and license plates. He studied genealogy and traced the histories of many families. He researched and wrote submissions for publication of over 20 NH historical markers for the HMdb.org website. He took great pride in assisting with the Eastman Clock Restoration project near his home.
He will be remembered for his bigger than life smile, humor, love of music, photography, feeding his backyard birds and the special care he gave to his family and friends over the years.
Doug is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Angela (McDonald) Finney, his son Kyle and wife Karen of Fort Worth, TX, his son Ben of Concord, NH, his daughter Amanda Gray and husband Tim, of Concord, NH, his brother Pete and wife Sonja of Higham, MA, his brother Matt and wife Liz of Concord, NH, his four granddaughters Mackenna, Piper, Hannah, and Leah, his stepmother, Alden Finney of Concord, brother-in-law, Dan McDonald of Pembroke, MA and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
