John J. Murphy

Beloved husband of 14 years of Michelle and loving father of four children, Anna Mae, Daniel, Shawn and Marilyn. Son of the late Joseph V. and Mary Murphy of Dumont, NJ.

John was born on February 5, 1957 in New Jersey. He graduated from Dumont High School in 1975 in Dumont, NJ and he was a graduate of William Patterson College in New Jersey in 1980 where he earned his business degree. A desire to travel brought John to the airlines where he worked for a short time as a flight attendant. Soon he realized it was the front of the plane where he wanted to be. John earned his pilot license and flew for private corporations and regional airlines. He was hired by Spirit Airlines where he proudly flew as a captain of the airbus for many years.

John was a devoted family man, spending all his free time with his wife and children. He had a zest for life that was unmatched. Always happy and full of energy, he kept us laughing and constantly on the go, making memories. He loved photographing his children and hanging their pictures all over the house, covering every wall and flat surface with frames. He was a devoted Hall and Oates fan, purchasing concert tickets every year. He loved working in his yard, swimming in the pool, catching frogs with his children and playing soccer in the front yard. Always affectionate and talkative, he will be so dearly missed by his entire family.

John is also survived by his brother Dan and his wife Maria, two nieces Jennifer and Jaclyn, all of NJ, his father and mother-in-law, Bruce and Diane Gabaree of Belmont, his brother-in-laws Steven Gabaree and his family Nicole Bourgault, Aleisha Callahan, Ryan Callahan and Caralyn Gabaree of Manchester, Eric Gabaree and his wife Lynn and family Kevin Gabaree, Jamie, Shannon and Tyler of Mass, among several close family members and wonderful friends.

Visitation will be held from 2PM to 4PM and from 7PM to 9PM on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at the Bennett Funeral Home, 209 North Main Street, Concord. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10AM on Thursday, July 8, 2010 at St. John the Evangelist Church, 72 South Main Street, Concord. Burial will follow at Pages Corner Cemetery in Dunbarton.
