It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret “Peg” O’Connor Karakla, who died on Thursday, August 4th, 2022 surrounded by her adoring family at the Jack Byrne Center for Palliative and Hospice Care in Lebanon, NH. Peg was born on February 6, 1958 in Brooklyn, NY, the fifth child of Michael and Beatrice O’Connor.
After moving out of her family home at the age of 18, she proudly moved to Brooklyn with her late brother, Danny, whose obsession with the iconic song “I Will Survive” is a story that was told often and with much hilarity. Peg shared her life with her husband, Robert Ward, and welcomed her greatest love, her daughter, Lindsey Colleen, in 1985.
Peg was extremely hard working; she began and helped our mom operate Bea’s Buns, a successful bakery they ran together out of the former TV room of our house. That was before Peg settled into her 30 year career at The Granite Group, formerly Goulet Supply Company. She made many connections with the people she worked with and gained important, lifelong friends as a result.
Family and friends were everything to Peg, and all who were blessed to be in her circle share that deep love for her. She was well known for her quick wit, her love for a good laugh, and her fierce adoration and loyalty for her “people”. She also shared her life with her friends Joelle, Robin, Diane, and Sherry who were as close to family as you could get. Peg’s love for her siblings particularly shone through, and they were blessed to have such an incredible sister.
Peg was known for the wonderful gatherings she threw at the home she proudly purchased in Laconia, the incredible eggplant parmesan that her brother John and daughter Lindsay always begged her to make, the “Peg Dance,” that she broke into on all dance floors and kitchens, and her favorite holiday tradition of plugging in the Christmas tree and everyone gathering around while shouting “OOOOOOOOH AHHHHHHH” through tons of giggles.
Peg was predeceased by her grandparents, infant sister Mary O'Connor, brother Danny O'Connor, father Michael O'Connor, brother Mickey O'Connor, mother Beatrice O'Connor, stepdaughter Nicole Karakla, niece Jessica LaBonte, as well as aunts, uncles, cousins and beloved friends.
She leaves behind her daughter, Lindsey Ward and fiancee, Jason Bohm; sister Kathy Randazzo and husband Joe; sister Tricia LaBonte and husband Jimi; brother John O'Connor and wife Chrissy; sister Susan Bourgeois and husband Dan; nieces and nephews Josh Feinberg, Carli O'Connor, Joe Randazzo, Nico Randazzo, Matt Randazzo, Lauren O'Connor, Allison O'Connor, Meghan Tewksbury, Jenn Thompson and Maisy Bourgeois.
The loss of Peg leaves a hole in our hearts that we know will never really go away, but will hopefully ease with time. However, with every tear shed, we laugh and smile through the tears knowing how blessed we are to have her as part of our lives. Make no mistake, she was a force.
