

Born November 11, 1933, a native of Middletown NY, the daughter of Charles H. and Jane (Gray) Shaw.
Peggy lived in Middletown for 21 years. She was a 1951 graduate of Cushing Academy in Ashburnham MA as a member of the Germanic Honor Society, serving on the alumni council. She was a graduate of Endicott Jr. College in Beverly MA, graduating as a Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society member.
Marrying John Grant of Beverly MA in 1954, they lived in West Peabody and Danvers MA before moving to Hopkinton NH in 1969. While living in MA, she taught piano for many years; was Junior Choir Director and occasional organist, church clerk, and choir member at West Peabody Congregational Church.
In Hopkinton, Mrs. Grant was very active in many organizations. At St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church she was a choir member, a vestry member, and most importantly, a Lay Eucharistic Minister and Lay Reader for 37 years. She was also very active in the Hopkinton Women’s Club as President, Antique Show Chairman, and on various committees. Peggy was supportive of many charitable organizations, including membership of the NH Antiquarian Society where she served on the Board of Trustees, and Chairman of the Museum Committee for 20 years.
She pursued her interests in early American decorative arts and antiques and had a fine collection of the White Mountain School of Art paintings. She was an antiques dealer for some years and relished the camaraderie of participation during shows. Peggy was also a published poet, and sold both oil and water color paintings.
She is predeceased by her husband of 40 years, who died in March of 1995, and is survived by her daughter, Judith (Jodi) Mapes Grant of Lee MA, and her son, Peter Shaw Grant of Concord NH.
There will be no calling hours; funeral services will be held at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, Hopkinton NH at 11 a.m. on October 19, 2010; The Reverend Kevin Nichols officiating, the Reverend Miranda Hassett assisting. A memorial tea will follow the service in the Great Hall. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
