CONCORD - Ralph Joseph Vinson died Monday January 18th after a brief illness at the age of 93. He was born on Mothers Day May 14th, 1922 in Westfield, Massachusetts. He moved to the Bronx, New York at a young age with his mother and sister. It was there that he met the love of his life, Theresa Crocetto who he would marry on March 12th, 1944. He joined the Army in 1940 where he was first stationed in Greenland to help guard our worldwide weather station. He was later sent to Europe where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
He moved to Yorktown Heights, New York in 1957 with his wife and two sons. When he wasn't working at the Post Office as a Letter Carrier he spent much of his time coaching little league baseball and being a Scoutmaster. He was an avid handyman and became an expert at building stone walls. He was also an excellent artist. After retiring in 1978 he and his wife moved to West Melbourne, Florida where they spent thirty wonderful years. Fishing became a favorite hobby of his during that time. In 2008 he and Theresa moved to Concord, New Hampshire so that they could be closer to their family. After spending five years at Pleasantview Retirement Home they then moved in with one of their sons and most recently to assisted living at John Whitaker Place.
He is survived by his loving wife, Theresa; son Robert and wife Patricia of Plymouth, Massachusetts; son Rick and wife Mary of Concord, N.H.; grandchildren Jessica Stanwood and her husband Kimball of York, ME; Kerry Vinson of Concord; and Bobby and his wife Juliet of Cambridge, MA; great grandchildren Maddy, Mac and Mariann Stanwood. He was very proud of his family and of being married to his beloved for almost 72 years.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations may be made in Ralph's memory to the American Diabetes Association at diabetes.org.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Bennett Funeral Home of Concord.
