He was born March 1, 1943, in Jackson Heights, NY, son of William J. Urbach and Madeline E. Urbach. He was a graduate of C. W. Post College of Long Island University. He worked for the JC Penney company for twenty-six years. After moving to New Hampshire, he became a teacher and taught Marketing at Pinkerton Academy for seventeen years. He really enjoyed working with and motivating his students.
He trained and taught at the U.S. Army Chemical Center and School at Fort McClellan. He serviced in Vietnam as a Special Advisor to the Commander of the 1st LOG.
He was a Justice of the Peace, Chairman of the Boscawen Police Commission, and former member of the Boscawen Planning Board. He belonged to the NH Farm Bureau, The Vietnam Veterans of America, the VFW, American Legion, and NRA.
He enjoyed reading, traveling, collecting unique and old fountain pens, and spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed tickling and being silly with his grandchildren. He was a student of world affairs and geopolitics. His daily goal was to make at least one person laugh, even if it was at his expense. He believed “your word” was your bond and that you should always be considerate of others. He always looked for the good in people. He was a man of principle.
He is survived by, the love of his life, Joan, his wife of 53 years; son Liam and wife Aileen, and their children Bailey and Connor; brother and sister-in-law John Gardini and Dawn Mickel. Also, his brothers and sisters by choice: Roger and Gwen Boyles of Pittsboro, NC; Camilo and Bernadette Cucalon of Somers, NY; Stan and Mary Galazin of Queens, NY; Donald and Eilene Jacobs of West Hills, CA; Bonnie Jacques of Hudson, NH.
A private funeral mass will be held on Monday, February 22, at 11am, viewable on Facebook LIVE via the following link: https://www.facebook.com/events/486989399127636. A public burial will be immediately following the funeral mass, at 1pm, at the NH State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Hwy, Boscawen NH 03303. Masks are required per the State Mandate.
