Lisa Rockett, 56, of Claremont, gained her angels wings with her family by her side on February 22, 2019. She was born May 15, 1962 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Mattie Janelle Lail who is left to cherish her memories.
After a lifelong, courageous battle with illness, Lisa has been mercifully reunited with her father, James Clinton Shortte Sr., her son, Ricky Dean Rockett Jr., and her beloved dog, Killer.
In life, Lisa was the ultimate caretaker and mother – a selfless, kind and compassionate human being with a heart that beat for the sole purpose of caring for and loving others. She made sure that not a single person in her life ever went without. She did not brag, complain or boast about the momentous things she did for others. She often pushed herself beyond her physical comfort to ensure that her loved ones were cared for. As we gathered around the table and began to make funeral arrangements, we asked the question, “What can we say about mom?” and so many thoughts came to mind. “She always took care of everyone” Rick, her loving husband, said. ‘No matter what was needed, even if she had stayed up all night making it (food, party preparations, etc.), she made sure it was ready and sometimes before you ever knew you needed it. “That was her, always thinking of others before herself.” “She had a strong will to live” her daughter Brittany shares. “Mom has battled illness since we were in High School and never once did she complain.” “She was always cheerful and positive”, I guess she didn’t want us to direct our attention on her illness or offer her our sympathy. She was such a loving person and wonderful mom, says Brittany. Her older daughter Erika, remembers all the time and effort she put into planning life’s milestone events. “She was so thoughtful and caring down to each and every detail, every “element created with love.” “There wasn’t a holiday or birth of a baby that went unnoticed, “times twenty”. She did this not only for our family but for her church family and friends.” She even thought of the animals and made sure they had a gift from Santa beneath the tree. She was so happy when she was doing something for others; it fulfilled her heart and she filled ours. We all agree, she will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
Along with her mother Janelle, those left to cherish her memories are her loving husband, Rick; two daughters, Erika Bizjak and her husband Andrew, Brittany Frow and her husband Matthew; two sisters, A’na Marie Burton and Monica Lynn Caufman; brothers, James Clinton Shortte, Jr., Timothy Maye and Anthony Eugene Shortte. Lisa also leaves behind three, beautiful grandchildren who were all truly the lights of her life.
A Celebration of her Life will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, February 28, 2019, in the Chapel of Drum Funeral Home, 509 First Avenue South, Conover, NC 28613, 828-464-3031.
