Betty Jean O'Barr O'Barr Smith

Born May 7, 1929, in DeLand, Florida, she was the daughter of the late Fretwell and Marie Bailey O'Barr. She was a member of Tri-City Baptist Church in Conover. When living in Texas, she attended Central Baptist Church of Crandall.

On Sunday morning, Jesus escorted a lovely lady into the gate of Heaven. We can only imagine His smile as she approached Him in her frilly dress, her feathered hat, her boots and her beads. A lady of many talents, she loved to live life to its fullest potential. She was loved by all who were blessed to have known her and shared her life. Mother, Sister, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, Aunt Betty and friend, you will be cherished and loved forever. May we always bring you honor in living as you taught us.

Her son, Terry Michael Whitener, preceded her in death.

Survivors include three sons and daughter-in-laws, Steve and Linda Whitener of San Antonio, Texas, Danny Whitener of Jacksonville, Florida, and Jeff and Belinda Carter of Dallas, Texas; brother, Fretwell O'Barr of Anderson, SC; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Christine Propst, Pat and Woody Houser all of Newton, NC; grandchildren include Brian Whitener, Kevin and Veronica Whitener, Randy and Anna Whitener of Texas, Adam and Tyler Whitener of Ohio, Shana Whitener Shivel and husband Chris, Kyle and Laura Whitener of Ft. Mill, SC; great-grandchildren are Peyton, Eliana, Tomas and Isabel Whitener of Texas, Preston and Leighton Shivel of Ft. Mill, SC; also, her dog and companion, Mikey.

The Funeral Service will be conducted by the Rev. Byron Repass at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 21, 2015 at Tri-City Baptist Church in Conover. Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Granite Falls.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Central Baptist Church Men's Ministry, 1749 South FM 148, Crandall Texas 75114, who minister to widows and the elderly of the community.
