Charles Richard Spears, age 66, of Newton, went home to be with his Lord and join his heavenly band on Friday, June 6, 2014 at Catawba Regional Hospice in Sherrills Ford. Born August 5, 1947 in Virginia, he was the son of the late Dewey and Effie Spears.
Richard was a member at East Side Baptist Church. He loved music and animals very dearly and was a talented and self-taught musician. Richard also enjoyed spending time carp fishing. When he was growing up, he was almost always found on a river bank with a fishing pole. Richard was a very generous man, who always helped those in need. Richard’s highlight of every week was playing music on Saturday evenings and he never accepted any money. Richard always felt that through his music he worshipped and helped to spread God’s word. God had blessed him in so many ways and he had a heart to give back. He was also a master carpenter and could make anything with his hands.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
