

Born April 24, 1922 in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late John Vestus and Rena Drum Setzer. She was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church in May of that year and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in the spring of 1936, and was a member there until her death.
She served as the director of the Altar Guild for many years, sang in the choir, held various positions with the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League and served as leader of the youth group.
Helen was devoted to her family and to her church. Also, she was an excellent seamstress, creating everything from wedding gowns to quilts for family and friends and a chasuble for a former pastor at Immanuel. She loved to spend time working in her flower garden and yard. Helen retired from the Newton-Conover School System where she had worked for over 20 years.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, John Franklin McGee, three sisters, Atha Setzer, Grace Hoke and Nola Cline, and three brothers, Boyd Setzer, Huitt Setzer and J.D. Setzer and a son-in-law, Hugh Morton, Jr.
Survivors include daughter, Pansy Morton, of Raleigh and daughter, Joy Wood and husband, Mike, of Kingsport, Tennessee. Also, grandsons, Jack Morton and wife, Adrienne, of Raleigh, Eric Wood and wife, Sunny, of Brisbane, Australia and Ryan Wood and wife, Katie, of Houston, Texas. In addition, two great-grandchildren, Harper Wood and Crosby Wood of Brisbane, Australia; step-grandson, Crae Morton and wife, Mamie; two step-great-grandchildren, Margaret and Clyde Morton of Lewisville.
The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Rudy DeRosa and the Rev. Delbert Roth at 2:00 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Saturday, March 12, 2016.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 1:45 at the church in the fellowship hall. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff of Brookdale in Kingsport and the staff of Catawba Valley Living at Rock Barn for the kind and compassionate care they gave to Helen.
