

In addition to his parents, Homer was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle Shook Self; brothers, Larry Self, Roy Self, Jerry Self and Charles Ray Self; and sister, Mavis Bumgarner.
Homer was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a good man who wanted his children to grow up the right way. He taught his children to know right from wrong. Homer loved golfing, gardening, woodwork and tinkering around with machines. Whatever he enjoyed doing was never considered a job, it was a hobby.
Those left to cherish his memory are sons, Donald (Julie) Self, Eddie (Brenda) Self, Tim (Susan) Self, Allen (Debbie) Self, Daniel (Geraldine) Self, Jay (Jane) Self; brother, Kenneth Self; sisters, Jo Ann Elmore, Diane Loftin; 14 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1pm to 1:45pm at Drum Funeral Home, Conover.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2pm on Monday, October 10, 2022 at Drum Funeral Home, 509 First Ave South, Conover with Reverend Edwin Elmore of Covenant Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow the service at Catawba Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Covenant Baptist Church, PO Box 1133, Conover, NC 28613.
