Joan R. Saine

Joan R. Saine, age 97, passed away on November 30, 2025 at Conover Rehabilitation in Conover, NC. She was born in Catawba County on Friday, November 16, 1928 to the late Marshall A. Rockett, Sr. and Bertie H. Rockett.

Joan was preceded in death by her high school sweetheart and husband of 65 years, Harold Saine; brothers Marshall Rockett Jr., Harold Rockett, Thomas Rockett, Franklin Rockett; and sister Mary Rockett Crump.

A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Joan, will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her generosity and the deep love she held for her family. Joan was a graduate of Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia.

A woman of faith, Joan was a lifelong member of Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ where she worked as a former preschool teacher.

Those left to cherish Joan’s memory are her daughters, Kathryn Abernethy-Schmit (Dennis); granddaughter, Erin Wentz (Casey); and three great grandchildren, Oscar, Silas, and Valentine; granddaughter, Anna Hughes (Mac) and one great grandson, Rowan; daughter, Rockie Lee Saine; granddaughter, Zara Saine and great granddaughter, Iona.

Visitation will be held prior to the service on Saturday, December 6, 2025 from 1 pm to 1:45 pm at Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ, 217 2nd Ave NE, Conover, NC 28613.

A Funeral Service for Joan will be held at 2 pm Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ with Reverend Peggy Stout officiating. Burial will follow at Conover City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Reformed United Church of Christ, 217 2nd Ave NE, Conover, NC 28613.
