

Joe Dale Bolick, age 87, of Newton, NC, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 28, 2018, at Abernethy Laurels in Newton, NC, after a period of declining health. Born May 12, 1931, in Conover, NC, he was the son of the late Oliver Glenn “Joe” Bolick and Myrtle Lorena Brown Bolick.
Joe Dale was a 1951 graduate of Startown High School and joined the US Navy, serving for four years. He served on the USS Winston AKA 94 Ship from 1951-55 during the Korean War. He then graduated from Clevenger College in 1958 and worked in sales for McCreary Saw & Tool Co. in Lenoir, NC, and Lineberry Inc. in North Wilkesboro, NC, until his retirement. He later drove cars for Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet as a dealer transfer. He was an active member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Newton, NC, where he had served in numerous capacities.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Ray Bolick and his wife Jo Nell, and his niece, Sonya Bolick.
Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Rowena Moose Bolick of the home; sister, Janie Bolick Baker and husband, Wayne, of Little River, SC; nieces, Julie Baker Smithey of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Gretta Baker of Little River, SC, and Crystal Bolick Thornburg and husband, Steve, of Maiden, NC; and great niece and nephews, Ashlyn Jorgancierski, Alec Smithey, Ethan Thornburg, and Spencer Thornburg; great-great nieces, Haven and Everly.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, July 2, 2018, at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Newton, NC, with Rev. Ralph A. Abernethy, III, and Rev. Kevin Graudin officiating. A graveside service with military honors by the US Navy and Newton American Legion Post #16 will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 1:00 to 1:45 PM on Monday.
