

Kermit was born in Wilkes County on October 1, 1937 to the late Quentin Kermit Cloninger and Grace Dexter Shatley.
Kermit was a diesel mechanic for the Ryder Transportation company. He served for six years in the North Carolina National Guard. Kermit was a member of St. Mark’s Church in Claremont. He was known for his collections of unique machinery; “Junk” to his family. He loved going to flea markets to socialize and keep up with his friends.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Christine “Chris” Cloninger of 55 years; son, David Cloninger and wife, Wendy of Conover; daughter, Christy Sigmon and husband, Kemp of Claremont; sister, Patricia Clarke; grandchildren, Tyler Sigmon and wife, Kelsey, Parker Sigmon and wife, Brooke; great grandchild, Ryan Sigmon; numerous nieces and nephews; and his dog Sissy.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday December 5 at St Mark’s Lutheran Church, 3216 W Main St, Claremont, NC 28610 with Rev Dr. Gary Haddock and Rev. Paul Christ officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30p.m to 2:45p.m prior to the service in the family life center. A private burial will take place prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial can be given to St Mark’s Lutheran Church in Claremont.
