Margaret Rose Abernathy Huffman

Margaret Rose Abernathy Huffman, age 88, of Newton, passed away at her home on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. Margaret was born on Tuesday, December 22, 1936 to the late Homer C. Abernathy, Sr. and Annie Hollar Abernathy.

In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, James G. Huffman; son, Lee G. Huffman; brother, Clarence Abernathy; sisters, Mabel Carrigan, Treva Sweezy, Margie Pope, and Jean Carter.

Margaret was a loved and cherished member of her family. She enjoyed watching home shopping channels and taking care of her flowers. She loved all animals, especially her dogs, which she referred to as her babies. Margaret was a lifetime member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Claremont, NC. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Those left to cherish Margaret’s memory are her daughter, Kathy McLeod (Ronnie); brothers, J.W. Abernathy (Katherine), Homer C. Abernathy, Jr. (Virginia); sister, Anne Howell; grandchildren, Airell Hullett (John), James Miller (Danyell), Taylor Wood (Josh); seven great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11am to 11:45 am at Bethel Lutheran Church, 5759 Bolick Rd., Claremont, NC 28610.

A funeral service for Margaret will be held at 12pm on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at Bethel Lutheran Church with Reverend Eric Hollar officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
