Born August 4, 1930, in Cleveland county, she was the daughter of the late John Dwight Self and Reathy Mae Deviney Self.
She retired after many years of loyal service from Gulf States Paper Company. Mavis was a loving mother
and grandma. Her kindness and generosity will be greatly missed by those that knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray E. Bumgarner; son, David
Ray Bumgarner; brothers, Jerry Self, Roy Self and Charles Ray Self.
She is survived by brothers, Homer Self, Larry Self and wife, Denelta, Kenneth Self and wife, Debbie; sisters, Joann Elmore and husband, Ray, Diane Loftin; sister in-laws, Trudy Self, Judy Self; grandchildren, Kristen Bumgarner, Andrew Bumgarner; great-grandchildren, Joshua Khamphengphet, Elijah Khamphengphet; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Service of Remembrance will be held on March 26, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church
in Claremont with the Rev. Gary Haddock officiating. Burial will follow at St. John’s Lutheran
Church Cemetery in Conover. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Drum Funeral
