Miller “Bill” Willis Smith, Jr., age 83, of Hickory, NC, passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2022. Bill was born on in Greenville, SC on Thursday, September 1, 1938 to the late Miller Willis Smith, Sr. and Ruth Manley Smith.
Bill was a loving husband and father. He spent most of his career hauling freight for Thurston Motor Lines and Conway Southern. He was a member of Mount Pisgah Lutheran Church. Bill spent many years as an active member of Optimist International. Over the last several years, he enjoyed taking part in the Rock Steady Boxing Program for those suffering from Parkinson’s. Bill was an avid music lover. He enjoyed playing the trumpet and listening to big band sounds.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Patsy Smith; daughters, Susan (John) Treveiler and Ruthayn (Jeff) Burdette; and four grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Lake Hickory Muay Thai for the Rock Steady Boxing Program.
The Smith family has entrusted funeral arrangements to Drum Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Conover, NC.
