Richard "Dickie" Stephen Saine

Born on February 29, 1948 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late James “Jim” Edward Saine and Edna Ila Lail Saine.

Dickie attended Hickory High School and graduated in 1966. He continued his education at Lenoir Rhyne College and at the University of South Carolina.

Dickie was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Hickory where he was an Elder and V.P. of the congregation. He proudly served in the army for 2 years and fought in Vietnam. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. Dickie worked for Blue Ridge Distribution and retired after 30 years of service, he then went to work for J.D. Carr Inc. Dickie owned and operated D & K Services and Wiley Ridge Christmas Trees. Through his Christmas tree business; he sponsored a scholarship fund at Concordia Lutheran Church in Conover.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth “Kenny” William Saine.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Kathy Elizabeth Reeves Saine of the home; daughter, Amanda “Mandy” Saine Burgess and husband, Thomas “Tommy” of Conover; grandchildren, Daly Burgess and Dawson Burgess of Conover; sister-in-law, Lois South Saine of Conover; and nephew, Stephen Saine and wife, Amy Hjelseth and their two children, Ila and Kase of San Diego, CA.

A Memorial Service will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, May 9, 2016 at Christ Lutheran Church in Hickory with Rev. Richard Schwandt officiating.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 4:00 p.m. until 5:15 at the church.
