

He was born August 12, 1943, in Catawba County, to the late John Carpenter Hoke and Ruby Nell Sigmon Hoke.
Sidney was a life-long member of Bethel Lutheran Church, where he enjoyed church activities, especially the Wednesday Morning Bible class. He loved his church family and considered everyone there a friend. Sidney was mild-mannered with a child-like nature, always happy and smiling. He was able to enjoy a carefree life. Sidney had many interests and hobbies. He enjoyed the challenge of a good puzzle and loved listening to all kinds of music. His big love was for old cars. If asked about the make and model of any car, he could tell you exactly what it was. During the past year, Sidney enjoyed the many caregivers who quickly became his friends at Abernethy Laurels. In addition, he also received special loving care during his brief stay at the Catawba Regional Hospice.
Survivors include his sisters, Jean Sigmon and Shirley Harwell, both of Claremont; nephews and nieces, Danny Rockett of West Palm Beach, FL, Gaye Yount of Claremont, Karen Ingle of Claremont, John Harwell of Conover, Brian Harwell of Claremont, and Leighton Harwell of Claremont ; and numerous aunts, uncles, great nieces and great nephews.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Claremont with the Rev. Eric Hollar officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at the church prior to the service.
