
Ruby Nell Sigmon Hoke, age 95, formerly of Hall Dairy Road in Claremont, and for the last six months at Abernethy Laurels in Newton, passed away on Tuesday, October 16, 2012. Born July 17, 1917, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late John S. and Lily S. Sigmon.
Ruby was baptized and confirmed at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Claremont where she remained a member until her marriage to John Hoke, thus becoming a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Claremont where she was a faithful member. She was employed as a seamstress at Conover Chair Co. and PemKay Furniture for many years where she made life-long friends. Ruby loved her family and was known as a great cook and gardener. She enjoyed her hobby of hand-crafted needlework.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, John Hoke; brothers, Elmer “Bub” Sigmon and Hugh “Bird” Sigmon; sister, Mildred Hoke; brothers-in-law, Everett Hoke, Jim Stewart, and Willard Setzer.
Survivors include her son, Robert Sidney Hoke, of Abernethy Laurels; daughters, Jean Sigmon and Shirley Harwell, both of Claremont; brothers, Carl Sigmon and wife, Sue, of Claremont and Johnny Sigmon and wife, Shirley, of Claremont; sister, Hazel Setzer of Claremont; grandchildren, Danny Rockett and wife, Claire, of West Palm Beach, FL; Gaye Yount and husband, Randy of Claremont, Karen Yount of Claremont, John Harwell of Conover, Brian Harwell and wife, Sonya, of Claremont, Leighton Harwell and wife, Mary, of Claremont; great-grandchildren, Wendy Rockett of AZ, Chris Rockett and wife, Mary Helen, of Atlanta, GA, Jesse Yount of Eglin Airforce Base in FL, Andrea Beam and husband, Matthew, of Catawba, Karlee Wilson of Claremont, Kacey Wilson of Claremont, Masen Harwell of Claremont, and Reese Yount of Claremont.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at Bethel Lutheran Church with Rev. Craig Schultz officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Her family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. prior to the service.
