

Mrs. Shirley Sue Carpenter Fisher, age 82, of Claremont, NC, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 25, 2016. Born April 1, 1934 in Catawba County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Edward Carpenter and Cordie Nina Yount Carpenter.
Shirley was an active member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Claremont, NC where she was a member of the choir, altar guild, WELCA board of directors, blood mobile drive, and quilting mission. She was a former Sunday school teacher, costume designer for children’s programs, and former member of the handbell choir. Shirley retired from Pinnacle Furniture Co. where she had worked as supervisor.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Clyde Eugene “Boss Hog” Fisher; sisters, Doris C. Wagner, Maxine C. Hovis and Ethel C. Tucker; and brother, David “Dave” Carpenter.
Survivors include her daughter, Denise Fisher Arndt and husband, Gary, of Claremont, NC; brother, James Edward “Jim” Carpenter of Claremont, NC; numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews; dear friend, Eva Cloninger; and her beloved cats, Fluffy and Marshmellow.
A service of remembrance will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Gary Haddock and Rev. Paul Christ officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening at the church in the Family Life Center from
6:00 – 8:00 PM.
