Born January 09, 1933, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Wilburn Toledo Korn and Clara Bost Korn.
Troy served in US Army for 2 years. He was fond of claiming that he ran the cleanest mess hall in the army. He married his beloved wife Raynell in 1953. He was a long time member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Catawba. Troy ran the Catawba Restaurant and Grill in Catawba with his wife and brother for almost 50 years. He was also involved with construction for many years before he discovered his love for cattle farming. In his spare time, he loved to take his fishing gear and go get a big one. Troy was famous for claiming to be the jack-of-all-trades and the master of none. His grandkids referred to him as a genius. He was a loving husband and father who was dedicated to his family and community.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Talmage Korn; sisters, Dolly Pope, Queda Laney.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Raynell Matthews Korn; daughters, Teresa Korn of Catawba, Jill Ervin and husband John of Catawba, Sandra Helms and husband Ricky of Maiden; brother, W.T. Korn of Maiden, Sister, Avis Korn of Catawba; grandchildren, Clara Ervin, Maddie Martin and husband Kyle, Cody Lutz; great-granddaughter, Layla Martin.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday May 14, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Catawba with Pastor Greg Alms officiating. The family will receive friends at the church, prior to the service, from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m. Burial will take place after the funeral ceremony at Providence Memorial Cemetery in Catawba.
