Alejandro “Cano” Gonzalez, a retired executive chef and life-long resident of Houston, Texas passed away peacefully on December 17, 2021. He was surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Alejandro was born at St. Josephs in Houston, Texas on July 11, 1945 to parents Celedonio M. Gonzalez and Feliberta Gonzalez. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Celedonio M Gonzalez Jr, his father-in-law, Joe H. Martinez and mother-in-law, Sarah Martinez.
Alejandro is survived by Mary Jane, his beloved wife of 58 years, his sons Alejandro Jr., Andrew and his wife Nora, Anthony and his wife Janet, Adam, and the two children that they raised as their own Michael Gonzalez and Isabel Gallegos. Alejandro is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 33 great grandchildren.
Alex’s strong work ethic began at a young age when he started as a dishwasher in the restaurant industry. He fell in love with cooking and throughout his career he competed in multiple exhibitions where he earned a variety of accolades. Over the years he worked his way up to executive chef and kept this role in multiple country and private clubs in the greater Houston area.
In addition to his love of cooking, Alejandro also had many other passions. He loved traveling the world with his wife and fishing in diverse environments—from Alaska to the Gulf of Mexico, as long as he had a fishing pole, he was ready to go.
He will be dearly missed by his family and friends, but we find peace in knowing that he is reunited with his loved ones in the kingdom of heaven.
We would appreciate it if everyone wore a mask to the services, thank you.
A visitation for Alejandro will be held Thursday, December 30, 2021 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Metcalf Funeral Directors, 1801 E White Oak Terrace, Conroe, Texas with a rosary 1:00 PM. A celebration of life will follow at 2:00 PM.
