Cleaon Edward Wright

Cleaon Edward Wright was born in Houston, Texas on June 9, 1949 to Raymond & Elsie Wright.

He was the oldest of four children. Cleaon grew up in the Aldine area and graduated from Aldine High School in 1969. He was a member of the Auto Mechanics Club and as a young man, Cleaon learned Building & Remodeling from his carpenter Dad.

He served in the U.S. Army, spending 1 year in Vietnam. Cleaon married Betty King on June 2, 1973 and settled in Conroe, Texas where they currently reside. They have one daughter. Cleaon and Betty have been active members of the Conroe Church of Christ, where Cleaon served as a deacon.

Cleaon was employed for 30+ years by Smith & Company Construction of Conroe. He stayed on as a “consultant” & loyal employee after retirement. The Smith family became very dear & important to Cleaon & his Family. Several younger members of the Smith family lovingly called him, “Uncle Cleaon.”

Cleaon was known as the one to call to fix and/or move most anything. There wasn’t much that he couldn’t figure out and solve.

Cleaon loved spending time fishing and camping with family & friends. He took pride working with his backhoe & tractors whether on his property or helping someone else.

Cleaon & Betty enjoyed traveling after retirement. Trips to Pennsylvania, Washington, D.C., Tennessee,

The Ark Encounter in Kentucky, and Alaska provided special memories.

Cleaon was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Elsie Wright; his brother Charlie Wright; and his in-laws Carlis and Ruby King.

Cleaon is survived by his wife, Betty King Wright and his daughter Dionna Shelby and husband Ron, all of Conroe; his sister Melissa Gallegos and husband Louis of Houston, his brother Raymond Wright, Jr. of Houston, his sister-in-law Sandra Wright of Houston, his sister-in-law Carolyn Jenkins and husband Johnny of Fairfield, TX, his brother-in-law Dwayne King and wife Cassie of Alto, TX and his brother-in-law Danny King of Dallas, TX; And left with special memories of their "Paw" are his grandchildren Weston and Colton Shelby. Numerous nieces, nephews, other family members, and a host of friends are also left to treasure his memory.

A visitation for Cleaon will be held Friday, August 27, 2021 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Metcalf Funeral Directors, Conroe, TX. A celebration of life will occur Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Conroe Church of Christ, 1860 Longmire Rd, Conroe, Texas. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Alto, TX. Serving as pallbearers are Christopher Curry, Michael Curry, Kent Curry, Bill Jenkins, Andy King and Anthony King.
