David is preceded in death by his parents, Marion T., and Lois Jacqueline Kissinger, and his grandparents, Jim and Pearl Howard. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Nita Kissinger, His Stepson, Scott Horton, and his wife, Lexanne. Two grandchildren, Jacob, and his wife, Kayla, and Victoria, and two greatgrandchildren, Hudson and Haevyn. He is also survived by his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Alyce and Ronnie Tevis, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Margaret and John Barnhart, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
David graduated from Anna High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Texas at Arlington and earned a Master of Arts in Psychology from Sam Houston State University. He served in the United States Army in Korea from 1962-63 as a Communications Operator. He continued to serve in the Reserves for four more years attaining the rank of Private First Class.
After his assignment in the Army, he went to Pasadena at the request of a friend. He worked at Sage while getting his teaching certificate. He taught for 33 years as a Texas history teacher and coached 7th and 8th grade basketball and football at Parkview Intermediate School. While teaching in Pasadena, he met the love of his life, Nita, who was teaching first and second grade classes. They married in 1980.
David loved walking his neighborhood and meeting neighbors and making friends. He loved fishing, watching his granddaughters’ basketball and softball games, boating, and was an avid reader.
He and Nita joined West Conroe Baptist Church on July 23, 2000 and were faithful members of the Encouragers Class. David loved working in Bethlehem City directing traffic and lighting hundreds of tiki torches each night. He also enjoyed helping with the youth BBQ fundraiser each year and coaching in Upwards Basketball. He is a faithful man of God that will be sorely missed by his family, church family, and friends.
The family requested in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Building Fund or the In Touch Ministry Fund at West Conroe Baptist Church.
