Born on July 10, 1956 to James Thomas and Patsy Rowell, Denise grew up in Spring, Texas where she attended Spring High School and graduated in 1974. During her time there, she proudly served as the school mascot, the Lion, and made numerous lifelong friends. The class of 1974 recently celebrated their 50th reunion, and she proved to be just as beloved now as she was then.
During and after high school Denise worked for Randall’s grocery store where she served as Front-End Manager. She was a valuable employee at Randall’s in Conroe, Texas for many years. Eventually, however, an even more important opportunity came along - motherhood. Denise became a devoted mother to two boys, Gentry and Garrett, whom she had with her husband, Tom Scott. Her sons were her world, and she poured her heart into raising them, volunteering for every extracurricular activity they joined.
It was during this time that Denise discovered her passion for childcare. She began working at Todd’s School of Merit in Willis, Texas where she served as a preschool teacher for 17 years. Denise not only touched the lives of her students but built many lasting friendships with her co-workers. After leaving Todd’s School, she continued to nurture young children as a personal nanny for many friends and family, making a special difference in their lives.
Denise loved the outdoors - camping at the beach, relaxing on the Frio River, fishing in Lake Conroe, or simply sitting on her patio. If you ever looked for her, chances are she was outside. Her love for nature and animals led her to volunteer for the Montgomery County Fair and Rodeo where she became a lifetime member.
Above all, Denise was a devoted mother, daughter, sister, and friend. But her most cherished role was being “Nissy” to her youngest grandchild Grady. She and Grady filled their days with laughter and learning - fishing, feeding the ducks, playing instruments, swimming, roasting hot dogs, and simply enjoying each other’s company. Her legacy will be carried on both by and through him.
Denise is survived by her son, Gentry Scott, wife Ashleigh; grandchildren Rhyder, Paysli, and Grady James; her mother Patsy Rowell; brother David Rowell (Cheryl); sister Mary Jane Poole (Chris); and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved son James Garrett Scott, and her father James Thomas Rowell.
Denise was loved by all who met her and she loved everyone she met. Her vivacious personality was one of a kind. May we always remember her beautiful smile, her infectious laughter, and the love she so freely shared.
A celebration of life will be held on November 8, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Cashner Funeral Home, 801 Teas Road, Conroe TX 77303.
