He was born June 1, 1951, in Covington, KY, to his parents Thomas J. O’Connor II and Edna O’Connor (nee Stuhlreyer). Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Edna, and son, Adam O’Connor. He is survived by his brothers, Thomas J. O’Connor III and Dr. Patrick D. O’Connor, and children, Jonah O’Connor, Dennis O’Connor, and Emilia (“Emmy”) O’Connor, and multiple cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Dennis was raised in Covington, KY as the youngest of three boys. Naturally gregarious, he was outgoing and drawn to the theatre at a young age. After completing drama courses at Thomas More College, he left Northern Kentucky and traveled the United States as a free spirit before eventually settling in Conroe, Texas. Here he pursued his acting passion at Crighton Theatre starring in multiple productions and constructing many of the beautiful sets attendees have enjoyed over the years. Most notably, he won an award for his construction of the set for “Singin’ in the Rain” which included an actual water feature producing rain on stage and truly bringing the scene to life. When he wasn’t involved in theatre productions, Dennis frequented Conroe coffee shops engaging friends and strangers alike in conversation.
Many in Conroe know him for the years he lovingly and graciously cared for his disabled son, Adam. Dennis, as was his nature, ignored his limitations and shared his gift for theatrics with Adam by including him in Crighton Theatre productions.
When he wasn’t acting on stage, building theatre sets, or practicing his lines, Dennis loved reading, Kurt Vonnegut especially, and listening to music. Dennis was an avid Grateful Dead follower often sporting their signature tie-dye t-shirts around town.
Dennis was a loving son, brother, husband, and father. He was family to many, and a friend to all. His booming voice and gentle heart will be sorely missed by those who had the privilege to know him.
Dennis will be cremated by Metcalf Funeral Directors and interred at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Fort Mitchell, KY.
A Celebration of Life for Dennis is scheduled to take place on April 26, 2026 at the Crighton Theatre. An additional celebration is being planned in Northern Kentucky with details to follow.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his memory to the Crighton Theatre or The Carter Centre.
